Vase, Marcello Fantoni
A vase, earthenware, by Marcello Fantoni, Italy, hand signed, probably 1940s.
Vase in earthenware in pleated shape with carved decor and signature. Inside glazed turquoise hue.
Having Marcello Fantoni as a collector's area is guaranteed to be interesting. He started his workshop in 1936 in Florence, quickly becoming established and recognized as one of the most prominent Italian potters of the post-war period. He was influenced by the ceramics of ancient cultures (Egypt, Etruscan, Inca, etc.) but also by modern art and sculpture, especially Cubism. Some of his works have a strong painterly and/or sculptural dimension. For the collector, it is a challenge to distinguish between objects executed entirely by Fantoni himself, and objects executed to his designs by assistants in his workshop.
